Dhaka, Feb 16 (UNB)- Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria today apprised an IMF mission of the state of country’s economy and said the government was pursuing a prudent policy of achieving non-inflationary economic growth.

“Despite devastating floods in 1998, the country’s economy is growing well,” he told the visiting mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a meeting at his residence.

Luis Valdivieso led the 3-member IMF mission at the talks.

The Article-IV mission visits every year each of the countries that avail of IMF assistance to review the economic situation of the debtor country.

Kibria informed them that export is growing 27 percent while industrial production 14 percent, revenue collection 21 percent and inflation 1.24 percent on point-to-point basis.

“Progress in agriculture sector is very significant. Suitable policy in this sector led to achieving bumper crop four times in the country,” he said giving a brief account of the state of economy.

Finance Secretary Dr Akbar Ali Khan and Resident Representative of IMF Ronald Hicks were also present in the meeting.

The team of the multilateral donor agency will discuss various issues with the government and other organisations.
